“The Theory and Practice of Online Learning” eBook published by the Athabasca university includes a comprehensive coverage of the practices and challenges of online course delivery:

The author discusses the importance of creating a sense of trust and safety amongst the learners to ensure that they feel comfortable in expressing their thoughts and comments within the learning environment (pg 280). One of the most intriguing suggestions by this author is a model where students engage in discourses where the students themselves are the facilitators and they form their own questions and comments. I am fascinated by this idea and would be implementing it in my own synchronous online teaching activities.
